About

University Congregational United Church of Christ in Seattle, Washington is a progressive liberal Protestant church. We see ourselves as an inclusive church, open to diverse people and beliefs, but rooted in God’s extravagant love, mercy and justice. At the start of every worship service our clergy declare, “You are welcome here, whether you are a believer, a seeker, or a doubter. We pray that you will be met here by the living Christ.”

We are a congregation committed to deepening faith and building relationships. We seek to become disciples of Jesus so that we can say “Yes” to God with our lives.

We have created this blog so that we can stay connected with each other and share with others. It is a way to share what your church leaders are doing and thinking, as we all—the leadership and the church community—imagine love and justice.

  3. Jim- I am wondering if you wished to make a comment on a different topic? I have moved your comment to the post that I think you wished to comment on, as referenced above. Please let me know if I have made an error by doing this.

  4. I like the idea of a blog and I appreciate the invitation in Church and Home to participate. I must say however, that it isn’t clear from the blog page of how to add a comment. The only other blog that I’ve used had the comment box directly below the blog.

The retreat center that you went to is truly beautiful and I can understand how people could be fearful of tripping over a tree in the dark. I personally think that God gave us the ability to fear as a protection mechanism. That being said there is somewhere a fine line between it being healthy and a phobia.

I am somewhat fearful of heights and as a parent was always afraid when my children would get too close to the edge that they would somehow fall over the cliff, banister, railing, etc.

That being said, I also try to let go of my fear and place situations and myself in God’s hands. This is not only comforting, but also part of my faith.

  5. Maybe a question is can he tell the values and essence of a person by one or two looks? mary–Feb 11,2008

  6. Altho I realize that Don’s Day in the Life of pieces were posted in March, having them come up as the most recent when I open the blog site makes it feel stale and uninteresting. Anything we can do about that?

  7. Can we put the more recent comments on the top instead of the bottom? I think that will also help the pages feel more current.

  8. What about posting “As I See It” from the newsletter? -Becca M.

  9. This is my first time on the blog and I am disappointed to see there is no ongoing conversation about issues facing the church or the nation. Jim’s sermon this last Sunday, October 12, 2008 was seems to be passed over us or perhaps the blog is not the place that is used to discuss such issues. His description of his play for the Holiday season was extremely touching and the punch line saddened me to the point tears to see that we don’t “get it.” Jim thanks for raising our consciousness regarding how we let issues pass us by without thinking what should be done. Keep the pressure on us.

  10. (and hoping for twins, but this year not really expecting them. The reason why is another story, not too interesting, and related to flock management . .

I’m curious about this comment you made back when the lamb saga began. Does it have to do with weather?

  11. GETTING THE WORD OUT IN ALL POSSIBLE WAYS
Missing those funny things that preschoolers say? Want to get to know the future of our church? Volunteer teaching
opportunities are available in both the Preschool and Elementary Christian Education programs. Commitments are as
little as once a month, up to a 5 week unit. Curriculum, supplies, and theological background are provided.
Elementary children spend the first few minutes in church, have their lesson, then return for the passing of the peace.
    Contact Laura, Interim Co-Coordinator at lgenoves@universityucc.org or 206-524-2322 X3305 and we’ll find a place
    for you to help.
